ワン、トゥ、スリー、フォー！　というポールの活きのいいカウントで幕を開ける、ビートルズの記念すべきデビュー・アルバム。ファン気質丸出しの偉大なるアメリカン・ポップス、Ｒ＆Ｒのカヴァーに初々しさを感じるが、既にビートルズ流にアレンジして自分達のモノにしているから驚きだ。M3の荒れた迫力あるジョンのヴォーカルもイイし、圧巻は何といってもたったの２テイクで録ってしまったという伝説のM14、ヒット・シングルM7、8を収録。

    まだレビュー無いのが不思議です。ファーストなのでデビュー前のライブで鍛えた熱い演奏が聴けます。その意味で、ガンガン聴き倒してほしい。聴くたびにジーンズの様な強い洗いざらしの魅力を感じ、飽きません。中後期の芸術的な魅力とは違うロック本来の良さがあります。ジョンのボーカルが最高です。

    私のような若造が、ビートルズのレビューを書くのは恐れ多いですが、この１stアルバムは素晴らしかったです。1曲目から非常に良いですね。僕の生きたことのない、懐き良き時代のロックという感じですね。

    リマスターCDの発売に触発されてリイシューLPをオリジナルアルバム13タイトル購入しました。マスターは’95年発売の旧盤CDと同じものなのでしょうか？私はこれまでビートルズをまともに聴いたことがなかったのですが、真剣に聴くとやはり良いものです。純粋にロックしています。ファーストのPlease Please MeからラストのLet It Beまで通して聴くと彼らの足跡が感じられて感慨深いものがありました。アナログの音は豊潤で力強くドライブ感があり素晴らしいものです。Abby Roadを除いてすべて英国盤ですが、手にするとなぜか「大事に作られているなぁ」という感じがして、彼らがいまでも英国で愛されていることがなんとなく伝わりました。このアルバムについてコメントするのは僭越ですがTwist ＆ Shoutが圧巻でした。
