1983年発表の大大大ヒット作！！　ニュー・ウェーヴ的な要素とボウイ生来の艶やかな魅力が結びついた前作『スケアリー・モンスターズ』から一転、映画『戦メリ』での美しい兵士役もあり、本作と次作『トゥナイト』でのボウイにはＯＬさんに聴かれてナンボ、の世界に突入した。ナイル・ロジャースをプロデューサーに迎え、ロジャース絡みの名うてのミュージシャンをバックに配した本作のサウンドは、”パワーステーション・サウンド”と呼ばれた、きらびやかな８０’ｓファンク、最先端、カフェ・バー（この頃ありましたよね？）！！　プロモ・ヴィデオの東洋人女性との濃厚なキス・シーンが過激（？）と判断され向こうで放禁になったM2や人気の表題曲M3、映画もあったM7など収録。

    このコンセプトアルバムは素晴らしい。DANCEをテーマにした作品でナイルロジャースが素晴らしい仕事をしている。「ボウイで踊る」なんて事はそれまでになかったので、古いファンは違和感があった。前の作品を順番に聴いてこの作品を聴くと痛快さがよくわかる。そして外せないのがＳ・レイヴォーンのギター。レッツダンスはフェイドアウトしないで最後まで聴きたい。これを「駄作」なんていう奴はボウイに「君、何もわかってないね」って言われてるだろうな。

    好きな順番。昔は、１→３→２→７…。今は、４→６→８→５…。発売から３０年近く経っても大好きな一枚。末永く付き合えるのは、名盤の証拠。夏向けかな？

    ざっとﾚﾋﾞｭｰを拝見すると「聴き所の多い駄作」とか「普遍性には欠けた傑作」とでも評するべきか…。　今聴くと、ﾊﾞﾌﾞﾙ当時のバカ騒ぎや刹那感までが音からにじみ出ているようで、20年前とは違う味わいがある。　どこか醒めた空気が漂う良作。
