昨年1999年にリリースされたワーナー音源によるベスト盤も大ベストセラーを記録したエリック・クラプトンの新作！今世紀最後のスタジオ・アルバムといわれる今作では、ブルースの巨人、Ｂ･Ｂ･キングと競演。初のフル・ブルース作となった『フロム・ザ・クレイドル』に続く、ブルース・オリエンテッドな作品です。ロック界のギターの神様と、エモーショナルなスクイーズ奏法などを編み出したオリジナルな存在であり、ブルースをロックンロール・ファンに広く伝える役割を果たしたブルースマン(少し前に新作出ました！)。あるスタイルにおいて道を極めた二人によるガップリ四つなギター・バトルや声を合わせての掛け合いなどがホント〜に心地好い。50年の人生を振り返り、それをストレートに反映させた前作『ピルグリム』のストイックな表情と、本作でのヒーローとのフレンドリーな雰囲気を楽しんでいる風情の両極を持ち合わせてこそのクラプトンだということを、本作を聴きながら考えた。

    Eric should have included some of his own originals, instead of utilizing previously recorded materials. Pretty interesting versions of established favorites though, like Key To The Highway and Worried Life Blues will rekindle the interest of even the casual blues listeners. A decent album though, if not for the less than ideal B.B. King vocal quality.

    この頃からクラプトンの声て太くなりましたね。当時友達がブルースにハマッテいてカーステでかけ始めた瞬間聴いたこともないのにいきなり鼻歌でriding〜を歌いだした〜

    Throughout the career of both Eric Clapton and B. B. King, Riding With The King may probably be their best blues and rock album they have ever recorded, for this is a collaboration of two gods of the guitar. The sound quality of this album is excellent too. Whilst Eric Clapton plays the guitar and sings on the left, B. B. King on the right. Simon Clime, producer of this album, facilitates the protool well. Such songs as Riding With The King, Key To The Highway, Marry You, Help The Poor, I Wanna Be, Hold O
