    　オーケストラの美音も、歌手の美声も、飛び抜けて素晴しいものはありません。しかし、なぜかこの演奏が好きです。丁寧に音を拾って聴いていると充実感があり、流れも心地良いのです。 　私は、バラで購入しました。前半２夜がシャンドス、後半２夜がEMIですが、確かにEMIの方がテープノイズはあるものの、音が鮮明で歌手の発音も聞き取りやすいです。しかし、シャンドスが必ずしも悪いかというと、ノイズもなく、ほんわかとした音になっている分、幻想的な雰囲気を醸し出していると言えなくもありません。

    この演奏で貴重なのはその極端な演奏時間。例えば神々の黄昏は全曲5時間越えている。「リング」は多くの場合、ゆっくりとしたテンポの方が成功しやすいが、これはそれが極端であっても鑑賞には全く問題がないことを証明している。歌詞が英語版なのが残念ではあるけれども！

    Chandosのマスタリングは先の「マスターシンガーズ」でも分かるとおり響きが薄く、水蒸気の中に漂うような実体感のない音になってしまっており、演奏のパワフルさが全く伝わってこない。今ならフルプライス程度（またはそれ以下）で旧EMI盤が何とか海外の中古サイト等で見つかる。ぜひクリアな音のEMIで聴き直してほしい。手放しの絶賛はできないが、それでも部分部分に見事な盛り上がりや、他では得られない興奮がある。貴重なグッドオールの遺産であり、それが現役盤ではChandos盤だけなのが残念。新リマスタによる改悪の一例。
