天才R&Bシンガーとして若干16歳で鮮烈デビューを果たし、そのソウルフルな歌声は肌の色を超えて絶賛された実力派Joss Stoneの約2年半ぶりのニューアルバム。前作『Introducing Joss Stone』に引き続き、プロデューサーRaphael Saadiqが参加。さらに、レジェンドJeff Beckをはじめ、Sheila E、Nas、David Sanborn、Jamie Hartman といった超ビッグ･ネームをフィーチャー。

21歳（!）にしてソウルの継承者と誉れ高い英国のソウル歌手、Joss Stoneの通算4作目。最近はレコード会社との確執が話題になっており、今作の発売も危ぶまれたが、予定より半年の遅れをとりようやくリリース。英国盤のジャケが超シンプルだったり、シングルのPVが録られてなかったり、CDに関するプロモーションもかなり制限された模様。なんといっても今回は母親のレコーディングスタジオで録音されたというのも、その辺の問題を物語っている。1stシングルである①は大変Popなソウル曲だが、最後には「私を自由にしてEMI（所属レコード会社）！」と歌っている。お勧めはピアノの簡素な旋律に乗るJossの声が物悲しいブルージーな②、現代のレジェンドBeckやSheila Eをフューチャーした③、前作のブレインであるRaphael Saadiqをフューチャーしたヴィンテージ感漂うブライトな⑥、⑨のThe Source feat. Candi Statonや⑩Ray Charlesのカヴァーもかなりいい感じ。正直全曲いい。ちなみに記載されていないが、13分にも及ぶ「Mr. Wankerman」という曲がボーナストラックとして⑬曲目に収録されている。前作、前々作は正直だめだったという方（自分も）はぜひ手に取ってほしい良盤になっている。1stのころのシンプルで飾り気のないソウルフレーヴァ―をたっぷり堪能できることでしょう。私は輸入盤を買ったが⑨を除いてすべて歌詞が記載されているので、ボートラ不要な方は輸入盤で十分。2 people agree with this review
