間違いなく録音は最高。初めて「千人～」の全てが聴けたような感じ(SACDの2ﾁｬﾝﾈﾙです)。とにかく何から何まで聴き取れる、聴き取れる…。高音硬くなく、低音どっしり。微音・弱音から大音響まで、全てが美しく収録されている。もう驚きです。演奏も1級品。演奏が凡庸だったら、名録音も名録音に聴こえないんでしょうね。名録音に聴こえるということは、それだけ演奏が素晴らしいということ。私にとっては、録音も含めた総合点では、これがベスト1です。

MTTがロンドン交響楽団以後のポストとして、格下と思えたSFSを選んだときは、意外に思ったものだが、このマーラーチクルスを聞いてきて、不明を恥じるとともに、MTTの本意がわかってきた。特にマルチチャンネルで聞くと、音場の見通しがよく、音楽のすみずみに配された仕掛けが手に取るようにわかる。それでいながら、自然な情感がそこかしこに滲み、この曲に期待される高揚感も期待以上。コンサート以外で、これだけすべての条件を満たしたマーラーの「第８」体験は初めて。ところで、至る所で「MTT＆SFSのマーラー最終章」と喧伝されているようだが、2010年には、真の完結編である歌曲集（リュッケルト、さすらう若者、角笛）が控えている。21世紀最初のディケード（「嘆きの歌」は20世紀だけど）を通してのMTTの仕事を最後まで聞き届けたい。

千人は、これがライヴとは思われないクオリティであり、セッション録音にも劣らない録音で、細部まで磨かれており、マーラーの録音が、ポスト･バーンスタインの世界で大きく変わっていることを感じさせてくれるものでした、聴いて、心底感動しました。ティルソン･トーマスのマーラーは、この前ＰＭＦオーケストラとの5番を聴いて感動しましたが、このＣＤも素晴らしかったです。
