思い返せば80年代後半に現れたMr. Bigは当初、当時のシーンのどこにも属さないかのようなユニークな佇まい、ハイブリッドな個性を持っていた。こちらは1989年にリリースされた彼らの記念すべきデビュー・アルバム。彼らの場合、ハイクオリティな演奏力だけでなく、楽曲のセンス自体に力があるから面白いし、のちに広範な人気を獲得していくことになったのだろう。日本盤のみボーナストラック収録。

発売当時、スーパーギタリストのポール・ギルバートと、スーパーベーシストのビリー・シーンが組んだバンドというだけで、期待が高まったのに、ヴォーカルのエリック・－マーティンがハスキーで上手く、ドラムのパット・トーピーがナイスガイという、他のバンドのメンツから考えると非常にうらやましいメンバーが集まったバンドでした。全員の個性を発揮したアルバムで、楽曲も何かを狙ったものはほとんどなく、正統派のアメリカン・ハードロックに、ギターとベースの早弾きが良いスパイスで効いている感じです。当時このレベルのテクニックを持ったバンドはいなかったのではないでしょうか。まぁテクニックが凄い上に、歌がこれだけ聴かせてくれれば売れないはずはないですね。特に日本では。

１０年位、昔に聴きこんでいたが売ってしまったので、購入。こんな物よく聴いていたなーというのが、率直な感想。曲、リフ、ソロ、全部に失望。

疾走感溢れるｵｰﾌﾟﾆﾝｸﾞ曲が非常に魅力的な好盤。白眉は「Anything for You」。MR.BIGの中でもBEST3に入る名ﾊﾞﾗｰﾄﾞだと思います。
