世界最高峰のファンク・バンド、Tower Of Power！グループの成り立ちは1960年代後半、サンフランシスコ近郊の町オークランドでのこと。サックス奏者のエミリオ・カスティーヨやスティーブ・クプカ、ドラマーのデビッド・ガリバルディなどR&Bやソウル・ミュージック好きの白人仲間で演奏をスタート。70年にジミ・ヘンドリックスのオープニング・アクトを務めたのをバネに、同年にデビュー・アルバム「East Bay Grease」をリリース。72年にメジャー・デビュー作「バンプ・シティ」を出すとすぐに人気に火がつき、ブラス・ロックやファンクのマーケットに力強く踏み込んだ。初代メンバーは、カスティーヨ、クプカ、ガリバルディのほか、T.O.P.サウンドの要となるフランシス・ロッコ・プレスティア(ベース)、グレッグ・アダムス(トランペット)など総勢10人。これで「ユー・アー・スティル・ア・ヤングメン」をヒットさせるほか、「ダウン・トゥ・ザ・ナイト・クラブ」に象徴される独特のファンク・スタイルを確立。本作はそんなTOPの全盛期となる75年に発表した作品。73年の「Tower of Power」、74年の「Back to Oakland」と共にファンク・ファン必聴盤！レニーの歌声とホーンの掛け合い、ロッコのベースの絡み合いがたまりません！燃えます！

前作のDr ガリバルディが抜けた作品だが、新加入のDrはそっくりさんと言える位の人でまずは安心。1曲めがメチャかっこよくてその勢いのまま聞ける。0 people agree with this review
