ベティ・ライトは,フロリダ州マイアミで1953 年に生まれたシンガー。ファミリー・ゴスペル・グループ:エコーズ･オブ･ジョイでの活動を経て,わずか13 歳だった1966 年にインディー・レーベルでファースト・レコーディングを経験。以後は伸びやかで快活なヴォーカル・スタイルを武器として, “Girl Can't Do What The Guys Do”をヒットさせた。しかし、その人気を決定的なものにしたのは72 年リリースのセカンド・アルバム『I Love The Way You Love』。 “Pure Love”,“ I Love The Way You Love”に続くサード・シングルとしてカットされた“Claen Up Woman（メアリー・J.“Real Love”のリミックス等に使用されたサンプリング・ソースとしても有名）”が、R&B チャート8 週連続2 位,ポップ・チャート6 位のヒット実積を打ち立てたのだ。こうして当初のアイドル的イメージから脱却した彼女は,以後も魅力的なメロディー・ラインを持つ“Is It Your Girl”,ゴキゲンなR&B ナンバーに仕上がった“Baby Sitter”,ブルージーな“It's Hard To Stop(Doing Something When It's Good To You)”,アグレッシヴに斬り込む“Let Me Be Your Lovemaker”など,様々なタイプの楽曲をヒット・チャートに送り込んでいった。本作は,マイアミの太陽のような明るさを持つ彼女が残した重要曲を,ぎっしり20 曲詰め込んだ充実作。表情豊かでポジティヴな持ち味を、存分に楽しむことができる。
