デイヴ・グロール率いるフー・ファイターズがバンド編成となり1997年に発表した傑作2ndアルバム。デイヴはじめ西海岸パンクスの憧れだった元ジャームスのメンバー、パット・スメアも参加(後に脱退)。パットは精神的支柱としてこの時期のフー・ファイターズを支え、バンドの大躍進に貢献した。同じく元ニルヴァーナという看板がやっと降ろせ、デイヴ・グロールを中心としたライヴ・バンドとしてのフー・ファイターズの無敵さを完全アピールしたのもこの頃。名曲”モンキー・レンチ”をはじめ、”マイ・ヒーロー”や”エヴァー・ロング”などがシングルとしてもリリースされた。

    音の輪郭が凄くハッキリしてて、ロックの持つダイナミズム溢れる一枚。と、同時にポップさやメロウさも兼ね揃えていて、完璧なロックアルバム。本当に全曲捨て曲なし！
