With BLOODSUGARSEXMAGIK the Chilis produced the defining moment of funk rock and the high point of their career. Raunchy and explicit from the first, the lyrical content was not for the easily offended and frequently strayed into misogyny. Musically, it straddled metal and funk with ease; in addition to the stomping, infectious rockers ("Give It Away," "The Power Of Equality") and the downright funky ("Mellowship Slinky," "Apache Rose Peacock"), all underpinned by Flea's virtuosic but unselfish basslines, the band also showed themselves capable of writing surprisingly melodic ballads ("Breaking The Girl," "Under The Bridge").

ロックにおけるファンク感・グルーヴ感の最高傑作！！！ これを作ってしまって、レッチリはこれ以上の作品ができるのかと心配してしまいましたが、彼らはそれを乗り越えちゃうからスゴイ。 アンソニーの歌詞＆歌、ジョンのギターが大事なのは重々分かっているけど、やっぱり、レッチリの肝はリズム隊の二人ではないでしょうか。この二人がレッチリをそれ以外の何者でもない存在たらしめていると思います。曲を聴いていると体の奥底からなんかうねるものがわき出てきます。みなさんもきっと味わえると思います。0 people agree with this review

好きなロックバンドは？って訊かれたら、やっぱりレッチリと答えるだろう。そして、レッチリをリアルタイムで聴いたのはこのアルバムが初めてだけど、今なおこれが一番好きだ。音やファンクネスももちろんだけど、歌詞もかっこいいんだよな〜。ロックしてロックしてロックしてる。89年からギターにジョン・フルシャンテが入ったレッチリは、このアルバムで完全にブレイクしたが、ジョンは売れ過ぎが嫌になって翌年には脱退してしまった。ジョンがレッチリに再加入したのは1999年だったが、2000年の夏にニューヨークのJones Beach Theaterで、Stone Temple Pilotsを前座に従えた贅沢なレッチリのライヴを観たことが忘れられない思い出だ。ジョンの復活ツアーだったから、曲目は、当時のCalifornication＋このアルバムの曲で構成されていた。海をバックにしたステージ上で、日本のエロアニメを使ったスクリーンをバックに、メンバー全員が大暴れ。Suck My KissやGive It Awayなんて、音もパフォーマンスもキレキレで本当にカッコよかった1 people agree with this review

まさに名盤！！！90年代を代表するアルバムだと思います。タイトかつファンキ-、グル−ヴィ-にうねりまくる演奏の上で飾り気のない歌詞をラップ、または唄で味ありまくりの声を使って伝えるﾎﾞ-ｶﾙ...ぼくは、音楽が好きで色々なジャンルを聴いてきましたが、歌詞、演奏、ジャケットのデザインなども含めてNO.1のアルバムです。M1の歌詞に感心しまくります。もちろん、ｶﾘﾌｫﾙﾆｹｲｼｮﾝ以降のアルバム（ﾜﾝﾎｯﾄ〜はまた別ﾓﾝということで）も好きですが、このアルバムは別格です。この先なん十年後かに、今のｼﾞﾐﾍﾝとかの名盤みたいに語られるアルバムになると思います。しかし、この頃のレッチリってすげぇなぁ！！！1 people agree with this review
