HMV Review
One of the mainstays of the Japanese alt-rock scene, Toe initially made a name for themselves with a well-received EP and a remix album. Their first full-length, The Book About My Idle Plot on a Vague Anxiety, showed the band moving toward a more pensive, introspective sound. Dual guitars are used in each track, all instrumentals, to play off one another and intertwine just enough to create a functional melody. The drums (which may in fact be the star of the sound) take the central focus as often as the guitars, if not more so. With the highly structured sounds created, the band's mission appears on The Book About My Idle Plot to be entirely about creating a groove and riding it through to the end of a jam session. ~ Adam Greenberg, Rovi
