80年代、アメリカの音楽シーンは「L.Aメタル」なる勢力が席巻していた時代でこの「W.A.S.P」もロスから登場したバンドの１つだった。デビューシングル「ANIMAL（FUCK LIKE A BEAST）」を初めて聞いた時は、衝撃的なアルバム.カヴァーも含め大人になった今でも中学生だった当時の記憶を鮮明に覚えている！「人と違う何か」を模索しないと生き残っていけないシビアな世界で、このバンドが見せるサタニックなライヴでの演出は他のバンドには無いある種の輝きを放っていた。個人的にバンドの創設者でリーダーのブラッキー.ローレンスは同じ時代を共に闘いぬいてきた「モトリークルー」のリーダー「ニッキー.シックス」同様、頭のきれる才人だと思っている！歌詞の内容はともかく楽曲が非常に耳に残りやすくビジュアル的な容姿もあいまってこのバンドは当方にとって違った意味で印象深いバンドである！ブラッキーは後に「THE CRIMSON IDOL」というコンセプトアルバムもこのバンドで発表しており才能の豊かさを見事なまでに証明して見せたのである！

私にとってのW.A.S.P.の最高傑作。正直このアルバムを聴くまでは、イメージの割にちゃらいバンド（Wild Child等好きな曲はあるにはあったのですが）と思っていたので、リアルタイムで聴いた時はそのへヴィな音圧にぶっ飛んだものです。オープニングにベストトラックが来ますが、以降の曲も傑作ぞろいで（３、４、５、６、８、１０がお気に入り、って殆どですね）、UヒープのKヘンズレーの参加も嬉しいです（ケンのハモンドが良い味付けになっていると思います）。今回の再発ではボーナスディスクが付いていますが、このアルバムの曲のライブだったらもっと嬉しかったんですけどねー（まあ贅沢を言い出したらきりがないか）。
