    前作「Populs Populus」でポップに思い切り振ったアルバムだと思っていたが、今作はそれを遥かに超えてきた。 「to the CIDER ROAD」の歌詞にもあるが、「♪CIDER ROAD もう迷わないで」この言葉が全てを語っている。 ポップであることにもう迷わないと。 今回のアルバムはまさにポップそのもの。 サウンドがキラキラしていて、言葉もシンプルになってるからすごく耳になじむ。 また今回のアルバムは曲と曲の繋ぎが素晴らしい。 余韻を残しつつも間髪いれずに次へ次へと展開していく流れは、ライブを彷彿とさせる。 始まりの「to the CIDER ROAD」、「ため息 shooting the MOON」、「リニアブルーを聴きながら」の流れは中でも秀逸で、これを聴かされたらもうアルバムの途中退場なんてできない。 気づいたらラストの「シャンデリア・ワルツ」の突き抜けたテンポとポジティブさにやられているだろう。 とにかく最高にPOPな一枚。 このアルバムを名盤と呼ばずに何と呼ぶ？

    このアルバムの帯にはこう書いてある。 「それでも、それでも明日を探す」 常に自分達の表現したいものを模索した彼らの、一つの到達点ともいえるのが、この「Populus Populus（ポプラ ポプラ）」。 それくらい素晴らしい作品だ。 このアルバムで彼らは、ロックバンドでありながら、ポップという面にも思い切って振っている。 代表的な曲としては、シングルとしてもリリースした「オリオンをなぞる」。 曲の感じや展開などには彼ららしさが存分に出ているが、この曲ではピアノの音を取り込んでおり、タイトルどおりに繊細だけど壮大で広がりのあるような曲に仕上がっている。 この流れを、いい意味で昇華させたのがこのアルバムといえる。 アルバムの前半では今までの彼ららしさ、そして後半にはポップさが前面に出て、最後は「未完成デイジー」、「オリオンをなぞる」、「シュプレヒコール〜世界が終わる前に〜」で終わる。 この展開は今までの彼らを知っている人からは驚かれそうだが、ここには驚き以上の心地よさと安心感を得る。 彼らがポップに振ったら、こんないい音楽ができるのかと。 そう思って改めてアルバムタイトル「Populus Populus」を見てみると、UNISON SQUARE GARDENというロックバンドに、PopをPlusした=Populusという風にも取れる。 そんな彼らの挑戦と確信が詰まった一枚。 文句なしの名盤です。
