小学校6年生か中学1年生の時に初めてラジオを買ってもらい、当時ポップスベストテンとい番組があって、ＤＪは亀淵さん(今は偉くなったけど)だったと思う。そこでよく流れていたのが、スレイドだった。グッバイジェーンがよく流れていたのを覚えている。当時は凄い衝撃的でけっこうハマったのを覚えている。イギリスと日本で凄い人気があって、アメリカではあまり人気がなかったみたい。何か懐かしいよ！このアルバムには入っていないけど、ＭＯＶＥＯＶＥＲを初めて聴いた時はけっこう衝撃を受けたね。後にジャニスジョップリンの曲だと分かったけど。初めて洋楽を聴き始めた頃だったので、よく覚えている。懐かしいな！昭和ですよ！おじさんのロックの歴史の始まりですよ。本当に懐かしい！

クイーンやステイタス･クォーらと並ぶ、70～80年代のイギリスを代表するロック･バンド、スレイド。デフ･レパードのジョー･エリオットをはじめ、彼らを聴いて育った後進のブリティッシュ･ロッカーは数知れない。その必殺シングル群をCD一枚にギュギュッと詰め込んだのがこの作品。なかでも４曲目"恋のバック･ホーム"から８曲目"スクイーズ･ミー、プリーズ･ミー"までがまったく同じ曲にしか聴こえないのが凄すぎるが、ヒット街道とはえてしてそーゆーもんである。むしろそれ以外の楽曲の多彩さが、けして一過性の存在では終わらないだけの確かな力量の証明であろう。何よりバンド自体のキャラクターを含めた、彼等独特の庶民的で人懐っこい世界は不変だ。惜しむらくは音質だが、その辺にもこだわる向きには実質的な本作のリマスター盤である"フィール･ザ･ノイズ"が出ている。しかし悲しいかな、そちらには大名曲"サンクス･フォー･ザ･メモリー"が収録されていない！そんなわけで、やはり本盤が手離せない私なのである。
