私は分売で買った日フィルとの第2番をLPで聴いていますがこの若干「見せ場」の多い曲を割に多分これがフィンランド魂と言うのでしょうか(録音のせいも否定出来ませんが)地味に扱っておりその地味さの中に曲の底流・・作曲者の意図に流れる沸々としたものを感じさせる演奏だと思います。従って所謂派手さを求められる方には少しもの足りなく感じるかもしれません。渡邉はこのシベリウス第2番を何通りかのオーケストラで録音しているが東京都響と録音した1972/4殆ど同時期に録音技術はさておき録った京都市響のものを関西圏の私は並行愛聴しています。

　録音当時は、渡邉氏が日本フィルの音楽監督・常任指揮者に再就任して３年、オーケストラの演奏能力が再向上していく途上にあった。その年の２・４・６月の定期演奏会で「シベリウス・チクルス」を行った直後の録音だが、まだ東京に音響のよいホールがなかったことと、録音技術陣の力量の問題もあり、音が籠り気味なのが残念。しかし、特に４番以降、渡邉氏の温厚な人柄のにじみ出た秀演。６番・７番など、じわーっと涙が出る。あまり知られていないようだが、レナード・バーンスタインは、渡邉氏のシベリウスを非常に高く評価していたのである。

第３番・第４番・第７番は絶対にこれが一番の名演奏です。いろいろ聴きましたが結局ここに帰ってきてしまいます。お薦めします。
