Dancehall DJ Sean Paul burst onto the U.S. charts in 1996 with his appearance on the soundtrack to Hype Williams' movie, 'Belly' and continued his success with 1999's 'Hot Gal Today' and the album, 'Stage One'. Inspired by the likes of Shabba Ranks, Super Cat, Lieutenant Stitchie and Don Yute, Sean Paul has created his own brand of dancehall reggae, often referred to as "uptown".

Sean Paul was born Sean Paul Henriques on January 8, 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica. Born to Portuguese-Jamaican father and Chinese-Jamaican mother, he grew up with the multi-ethnic background. He was also such an excellent athlete that he once played water polo for the Jamaican national team. In addition, he studied hotel management at the College Of Arts Science And Technology in Hope Road. After all, Paul chose his first love, music.

Already noted for his songwriting and DJ-ing, he released a debut single 'Baby Girl', produced by Jeremy Harding in 1996. The single exploded on the Jamaican scene, establishing him as a major force to be reckoned with. He had a series of Jamaican hits including 'One More Try', 'Deport Them', 'Excite Me' and 'Infiltrate', and his success prompted VP Records to sign him for US debut.

After the collaboration with Mr. Vegas and rapper DMX, featured on the above-mentioned 'Belly', Sean Paul dropped his classic US debut album, 'Stage One', which successfully married hip-hop with dancehall reggae. His new studio album and Atlantic debut, 'Dutty Rock' was premiered by the single 'Gimme The Light' and 'Get Busy'. The tracks entered Top 10 in US chart and the latter reached No.1 in May, 2003. One of the decade's most interesting albums in hip-hop, 'Dutty Rock' became platinum on both sides of the Atlantic and remained in the charts well into 2004. The album features Paul collaborating with such US hip-hop top names as Beyonce, Bust Rhymes, the Neptunes and Wyclef Jean.
