"The Prince of Romance", Richard Clayderman was born Phillipe Pages on Dec. 28, 1953 in Paris, France. He took up the piano in early childhood and enrolled in the Paris Conservatory of Music at the age of 12 and won the first prize at a piano competition four years later. Despite his classical music background, he was leaning toward popular music and joined tours of French pop stars such as Johnny Halliday and Michel Sardou as a backing pianist. That led to his solo deal with Delphine label and his debut 'Ballade Pur Adeline' (1977) became a worldwide hit, selling over twenty million copies.

With the release of 'Adeline', Richard Clayderman transformed the world of instrumental music. He took the step forward with the following albums, most of which became massive hits in Europe, South Africa and Japan. His albums are mostly comprised of show tunes, film themes and any kind of romantic tunes featuring his inimitable brand of musicianship.

Since his sensational debut, Clayderman has spent more than half of the year on touring. He still remains the most popular pianist all over the world and certified by The Guiness Book of World Records as "the most successful pianist in the world". Particularly popular in Japan, he has been continuing annual Japan tour since early '80s.

His most recent album 'Rendez Vous' finds Clayderman re-recording his classic songs produced by Japanese accordionist Coba. He will also release an album of covers, 'Antique Piano' which features Clayderman reinterprets Japanese pop songs with a 200-250 years old vintage piano.
