    コンセプトのはっきりした、なかなかに面白いアルバム。『子供と魔法』は実は初めて聴きまして、美しい個所はあれど、全体としては今一つとっつきにくい感じもしますな。ソロ歌手が歌うところは変で、オケやコーラスの場面がまさに次の「マ・メール・ロア」の雰囲気そのままに美しい調子です。そっちはなんとも言う資格はありません。で、大好きな「マ・メール・ロア」、こちらは見事な名演でしょう。ベルリンフィルの最高の能力を活かして、この上なく美麗な表現。お伽の国と言う夢幻的な雰囲気ではなく、むしろ正直わざとらしい作為の目立つ演奏ですが、それこそラトルの面目躍如というところだよね。ラヴェルの人工美、こういうスタイルで十分に活きているように思います。録音も優秀。総じて、大いに楽しんだディスク。よかったな。

    アンセルメとともにLP時代の廉価盤で親しんだ演奏。一言で言って中庸の美だ。オケがフランス系だったらもっと癖も強く色気のある演奏になったに違いなく、ロンドン交響楽団は巧くそつがない分、物足りなくもある。同じフランス系でもブーレーズやミュンシュ、アンゲルブレシュト、デュトワなどのような個性的な指揮者や、非フランス語圏のカラヤンやジュリーニ、アバドなどの自己主張の強い演奏を知る前は、個人的にはモントゥやアンセルメがいわばラヴェルやドビュッシー演奏の物差しになっていた。今では幾分味気ないと思えるこれらのDeccaの初期ステレオ録音の名盤の数々だが、その上品さと録音のクリアーさはこれからも広く聴かれるべきだと思われる。
