Digitally remastered edition of this classic album from the rock icon. Originally released in December 1989,... But Seriously features many of Phil Collins' biggest hits and was one of the era's biggest selling albums. In the UK, it spent a total of 15 weeks at #1 during an extended run of almost a year in the Top 10 en route to becoming the biggest selling album of 1990. The album campaign culminated with his fourth and fifth BRIT Awards for British Single (Another Day in Paradise) and British Male. Internationally, the album scored #1 chart positions all over the globe including a four-week spell atop the Billboard 200.

最高傑作「No Jacket Reuired」に続く作品ですね。サウンドは前作に近いですが、よりBrassが強調された感じがします。もともとDrummerなので、コンサートでDrumもやりVocalもやるとかなり負担があるみたいで、TourではBrassやコーラスの比重を多めにしていたみたいです。その流れがこのアルバムに影響しているものと思います。なので前作に比べればVocal色が少し薄い感じがします。ご了承願います。個人的にはSigle以外では”All of My Life”や、”Find A Way to My Heart”がお勧めです。特に”All of My Life”ではSteve Winwoodのオルガン＆コーラスが聴けますので特にお勧めです。そう言えば、Singleの”Another〜”ではホームレスの話題でゴシップがありましたが、その後どうなったんでしょうかねぇ...

スミマセン、個人的には余り好みではないアルバムです。とは言ってもサウンドはより上質に仕上がっており完成度は流石に高いですな。内容がクソ真面目になったせいか全米でのセールスはメガヒットだった前作の３分の１程だったけれど、一方で前作よりもシングルを切りまくってましたねぇ・・・。前作が全般的にやけに派手だったのに対し、本作はシルキーで大人な内容で全く対照的になっておりますね。

前作の大ヒットを受けてもなお、更なる音楽才能を披露してくれたキャリア最高傑作。 「アナザー・デイ・イン・パラダイス」（全米1位）でのデヴィッド・クロスビーの美しいハーモニーは涙モノ。 また「雨にお願い」でのエリック・クラプトンのソロも名演中の名演。 長尺かつ収録曲の多さを全く感じさせない高品質ぶりには、前作以上の大絶賛が寄せられましたね。 チャート＆セールスのピークはここまででしたが、既にジェネシスでの大成功も含め”最高のソングライター”としての認識は十二分に果たせたのではないでしょうか。
