Friedrich Nietzsche - Complete Works for Solo Piano first presents compositions written by the great German philosopher. Music was an important part of his life: "Without music, life is simply a delusion, exertion, exile."
Nietzsche was a talented musician, especially when improvising at the piano. His compositions on the other hand were criticized by his contemporaries - but the works do prove that Nietzsche had a gift for melodics, something particularly reflected in his songs and the two piano sonatas.
For this CD, pianist Michael Krucker has put Nietzsche’s finished works alongside fragments, miniatures the length of the aphorisms Nietzsche prefered to use as a form of philosophical expression. The fragments display an inner musical conclusiveness. The majority of the piano miniatures, which are to be heard on CD for the first time, were written between 1861 and 1865, during Nietzsche’s school and student days - his most productive phase.
