スワロウテイル以来、１年半ぶりに岩井俊二がメガホンを取った本作は上映時間70分という短編映画で、大作の重圧感から開放され、もう一度原点に返って映画作りを楽しめたと監督自身語っている、とても岩井俊二らしいカラーの作品。東京でひとり暮らしを始めた女子学生の小さな冒険を描いたドラマで、４月という出会いのシーズンと、ほのかな恋の物語に込めた岩井俊二の思いを、松たか子がファンタジックな世界へと昇華させている。

桜の花びら舞う４月、大学進学のため、生まれ故郷の北海道・旭川を離れて東京でひとり暮らしを始めた楡野卵月。彼女にとっては毎日が新鮮な驚きであり、冒険だった……。だが、彼女がこの大学を選んだのには人に言えない“不純な動機”があった……。

    いい映画なんだけど、スクイーズ収録じゃないんですよね、これ。ビスタサイズ（？）なので、スクイーズで収録すると上下が多少切れるから（そして一部のマニアが文句を言うから）だと思うんですが、そろそろ16：9サイズで再発してほしいです。

    物語は桜舞い散る景色の中、主人公の女子大生がアパートで１人暮らしをする所から始まります。 彼女は、高校時代の１つ年上の先輩を追いかけて上京してきます。片思いです。そして、先輩のバイトしている本屋へ通い詰めます。一途な淡い恋です。 主演の松たか子が少女のあどけなさが残る主人公を見事に演じています。この頃の彼女の感性を映した貴重な映像だと思います。
