    1965年ブルーノートの録音「Desert Moonlight」はどう聴いても「月の沙漠」!?。作者がリー・モーガンとクレジットされている。共演者はピアノがロニー・マシューズ、テナーサックスがジョー・ヘンダーソン、ベースがヴィクター・スプロールズ、ドラムがビリー・ヒギンズ。冒頭の「ランプローラー」はピアニストのアンドリュー・ヒルの曲でラムの香りがする。演奏はユニークなモーガンの多彩な選曲と決して人真似しないトランペットを堪能できる。共演者もモーガンをしっかり支え聴き応え充分。

    1964年2月15日ブルーノートの録音、全てリー・モーガンの曲で新境地に打って出る。共演者はテナーサックスのウェイン・ショーター、ピアノのがハービー・ハンコック、ベースのレジー・ワークマン、ドラムのビリー・ヒギンズ。名盤「The Sidewinder」が1963年12月21日の録音なのでわずか数ヶ月しかたっていない。今となれば「The Sidewinder」が陽で「Search for The New Land」が陰で一対をなす。起死回生を狙った眼光の鋭いモーガンの顔とタイトルの「Search for The New Land」と、当時の本人の気合を感じる。
