Led Zeppelin were one of the most innovative and successful groups in modern music. The band has sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for it's pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm.

レッドツェッペリンの2枚目のアルバム。50年以上前の作品であるにもかかわらず、その圧倒的なエネルギーに打ちのめされてしまう。大音量で聴くと、更に彼らの魅力を肌で感じることができる。1969年〜1970年はロックミュージックの幕開けでもある。ロックにかけるピュアな姿勢が感じられる。そんな時代の空気はそれ以降感じられなくなっているかもしれない。貴重な時のエッセンスさえも共にそこに詰まっているアルバムでもある。

セカンドの新作と考えたい。確かに、そこに流れる音、演奏に違いはない。すなわち、聞き取れなかった音がある。ノイズ、テープヒス、息継ぎ、ピックノイズ、スティクの確認音、テープの繋ぎと思われる音の変化。これらに気がとられるあまり別バージョンの登場かと思いながらの鑑賞となる。最初期のCDから耳にすると尚更である。以前から当アルバムを親しんできた者には有り難く新鮮で何よりだが、初めて耳にする人にはどう感じるのだろう。新しい録音に慣れた見には薄く感じるのだろう。確かに隙間だらけだ。今風の音、技術を見せた本作の新たな評価に興味がわく。
