    「仮面舞踏会」は、フィギュアスケートで採りあげられてから、いつか組曲くらいは入手したいものだと思っていた。ヴァイオリン協奏曲も実演で聴いて以来、１枚くらいは持っておこうと思っていた。ちょうど２曲がカップッリングされていたので、均一セール５００円の折に購入。驚いたのは、仮面舞踏会の終曲が第１トラックに刻まれ、第２トラックからヴァイオリン協奏曲が始まったことだ。１トラックずつずれて、ジャケットに表示された曲は全て収録されているものの、ずいぶんな凡ミスである。しかし、演奏と録音は、そう悪くない。やや粗いものの、管弦楽の迫力は十分であるし、独奏の技術はしっかりしている。録音は「放送録音風」とでもいうか、即物的で明瞭だ。

    モノラル録音最後期の1954年、録音はイギリスということで、音質的には問題はありません。ホントにステレオでないことが残念です。オーケストラがフィルハーモニア管ですが、解釈は充分浸透していて、後年のウィーンフィル盤よりも練習時間は取れている感じです。ヴァイオリン協奏曲も有名なステレオ盤と遜色ないです。金管が無駄に咆哮しないので聴きあたりも良好。
