ハワイAORの先駆け的バンドですね。当時はハワイの音楽と言えばハワイアンぐらいしか認知されておらず、彼らのアルバムも国内盤が出されたのはずいぶん後になってからでした。サーファー達から火がついたのでサーフロックなどと言われてたこともありましたね。このアルバムは70年代に出された彼らの1～5枚目までのアルバムからのピックアップであり、一番いい頃の音が集まっています。高音質CD化されていて音もいいし、彼らの音楽の概要を知るにはベストだと思います。

Kalapanaの中でも一番メロウで都会的なアルバム。ハワイアンというよりは、AORに近いかな？マラ二ーのヴォーカルは少しカントリーっぽく、マッキーのヴォーカルは対照的に都会的。ハワイの町、ハレイワ、マカハとワイキキって感じ。つまりバランスの取れたアルバムです。インストの名曲『ワイキキの熱い砂』をはじめ、ちょっとボサノバ・テイストの『ジュリエット』など、今でも聞き続けているアルバムです。R134のBGMにしている年配サーファーを多いのでは？
