ジョニー・ウインターのすごいところは、超絶的な速弾きを聴かせながら、余裕も同時に感じさせるところだと思います。速さと味わいを同時に感じさせるのはこの人ならではの芸です。このライブは、ブルーズというより、ストレートなロック寄りの演奏です。それでもギター好きのユーザーで満足できない人はいないでしょう。6. Sweet Papa John のスライド・ギターの破壊力は、並みのヘビーメタルでは太刀打ちできません。巨大なギター演奏をシャワーのように浴びることが出来るライブの名盤であります。 5. Highway 61 Revisited は、ボブ・ディランの曲の中でも攻撃的な曲だと思います。それを拡大再構築した演奏がハイライトです。10分以上に及ぶ演奏で、7分過ぎのフロイド・ラドフォードとのダブル・リードになる部分では全身の毛が逆立ちます。ラドフォードは「Tin House」の唯一作でも弾きまくりソロが大変様になっていたギタリストです。ウインターの相手役として、同じスタイルを持つこの人ほど適役はいないでしょう。最終曲のあと、オーディエンスが本当にバンドを称えていることが判ります。

1曲目の、右ウィンター、左デリンジャーのダブル・リードといい、2曲目の弾けども弾けども次々新しいフレーズが出てくる名演といい、ウインター・ファンの多くが称える名盤です。とにかく速い速い。速いだけでなく、指の力があって粒立ちがはっきりしている。これが彼の安定感の基本だろうと思うんです。しかもこの時期は、デリンジャーのサポートもあって、一番ハードに弾きまくっていた時期。ほとんど他人の曲ですが、全く不満はありません。自分の経験では、恥ずかしいことにこの作品の良さを判るのに時間がかかりました。ヘビーロック、コアなブルーズを一通り聞いたあとに戻ってきたら、とんでもない巨人ギタリストだったことに気づいた、という具合なのです。ひとつには、ぶっきらぼうなボーカル、弾き倒しギターのほかに過剰な演出が何にもないことが理由だったのでしょう。最初、単なるロックンロールに聞こえてしまっていたのでした。今から考えると、とんでもありません。ところで、ボビー・コールドウェルの超人的な叩きまくりが聴けることが、もうひとつの役得です。この人はどうなっているのでしょう。ロールの速さは世界一ではないかと思いますし、バスドラの連打なんか異常です。危うく主役を食ってしまうおそるべきドラマーです。
