英EMIの編集による最新のベスト盤。よって後期の曲がメインだが、アトランティック時代の音源も中盤にまとめて収録されている(しかも全てライヴ!)。ようやく彼等のオールタイム･ベストと言えるものができたと思う。"フラッシュバック"に代えて国内発売されるのも当然。あとは、ピーター抜きで作られた最終作"ヒップ･アート"の復刻を待つばかりである。

代表作"フリーズ･フレイム"とともに、数年おきに再発されるのがEMIMJのルーチンワークになっているJ.ガイルズのベスト。しかし今回はいつもの"フラッシュバック"ではなく、近年イギリスで編纂されたベスト盤を国内盤として発売した。全部でも40分に満たなかった従来型に比べれば、ようやく時代に即した陣容に。加えてアトランティック時代の曲は全てライヴ、しかも"I Do"を除けば全てアトランティック音源で収録されている。ようやく決定版と言えるものが現れたと言えるだろう。これと例のボウリング･ジャケのベストで、このバンドの全貌をほぼ俯瞰できる。とは言え、EMI時代のJ.ガイルズの最大の聴きどころは、やはりセス･ジャストマンのキーボードにあると思う。安っぽいと言ってはそれまでなのだが、それがまた味なんである。てらいのない歌謡曲であり、市井の音。"フリーズ･フレイム"収録曲でのテクノな装いも、"わっほ、俺ホのバンドもこれでニューウエーブだんべ！"てなもんで。スティーブ･ミラーのシンセ導入のセンスにも通ずるこのイモ臭さ。これこそがJ.ガイルズの真骨頂である。だからこそ、"ヒップ･アート"をはじめとするピーター脱退後の音源が抹殺されているのは、犯罪だとしか言いようがない。そんなことだからソニーの軍門に下っちゃうんだよ。
