Face To Face (Expanded Edition)

Digitally remastered and expanded edition 1981 release, the third album from the soul/funk outfit. Before the sessions took place, Paul Service left the group and was replaced (on the recordings) by Chris Parker as well as Howard King. This time, producer Simpson brought to the studio a few heavy hitters percussionist Ralph MacDonald & arranger Ray Chew. Shake, an absolute killer boogie tune, was the first single (#23/R&B). Other mid-tempo boogie tunes are Shy Baby (with a great instrumental chorus), Boogie Shoogie Feelin'', and I Love (The Skin You're In) the latter, written by the late Kenny Nolan (of Peaceful fame), was recorded by Tavares a year later for their album New Directions. Face To Face peaked at #18 on the R&B album charts but it didnt sell as well as GQS first two efforts. Afterwards, Arista released a best-of collection and the group left the label.
