７１年に彼がデビューした時、無声映画に出てくるような出で立ちや”Alone Again Naturally” の自意識過剰な歌詞に胡散臭さを感じて、あまり好きになれなかった覚えがある。そういった印象が一変したのが、７３年９月に発表されたこのアルバム。冒頭のタイトル曲やシングル発売された”Ooh Baby””Get Down”などこそ、ファンキーなサウンドだが、その他の曲のほとんどは70’sブリティッシュ・ポップスの美点を凝縮したようなサウンドで、ラジオで紹介された翌日にはレコード店に走った。特にＢ面（ＬＰ時）ラス前の”If You Love Me Like You Love Me”には涙が出るほどの衝撃を受けた。買ってしばらくは、この曲ばかりを繰り返し聴いていたものだ。今回はシングルＢ面曲など４曲のボーナストラックが入っているが、”Ooh Baby”のＢ面だったという”Good Company”以外は、その路線。既ＣＤ化曲ばかりだが、本作の続きで聴けるのはうれしい。

Clairが聴きたくて思わず買ってしまいました。Alone Again(Naturally)、Get Downなど当時のヒット曲目白押しですが、改めて聴いてみるとその他の曲も実にメロディーラインが美しく優しい。当時は個人的にはあまり評価していなかったのですが、間違っていました。とってもいいアルバムです。
