Theater of Transparency/ 2000-2010 A ten-year video project by Osvaldo Romberg

Theater of Transparency features three videos produced by Argentine artist Osvaldo Romberg during the last few years. These works explore the history of transparency and its relation to painting and electronic media, and were at the center of recent installations by the artist in the Mirror Room of the Neue Gallerie arn Landesmuseum Joanneum in Graz, Austria (2008) and the museum balcony of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany (2009). They were projected alongside the protagonists of these narratives - a series of humanoid dolls and puppets made of transparent acrylic.

Over the past five decades, Romberg has produced paintings, books, installations, films, and architectural watercolors that explore the analysis, interpretation, and representation of art and art history. He has exhibited widely, including at the Kunstlhistoriches Museum, Vienna; Kunstmuseum, Bonn; Ludwig Museum, Cologne; Sudo Museum, Tokyo; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; The Jewish Museum, New York; the XLI Venice Biennial, Israel Pavilion; the Museum of Modern Art, Buenos Aires; and the Van Abbenmuseum, Eindhoven, among others.

1. Besame Mucho: A Hypertext about Love (1997-2003; 15 min)
This opera focuses on the evolution of love between Carlos and Isadora, two plastic humanoids. of their relationship - one of suffering, lies, deceit, and perdition - the connection between love and guilt dissolves, and the portal to paradise opens.

2. Jesus de Buenos Aires (2006; 18 min)
This video documents an unusual transformation in the passion of Christ. This time the "inquisitors" are Jacques Lacan and Sigmund Freud.　　Accompanied by the sound of tango music and pictures by Giotto and Pasolini, Jesus assumes the guise of the revolutionary Che Guevara.

3. Romeo & Julieta According to Romeo (2008; 15 min)
The final work in the trilogy revists William Shakespeare's love story from the perspective of the Argentinean macho Romeo. Romeo and Juliet decide against mutual suicide and instead unite as a single hermaphrodite entity. Charlie Chaplin plays the role of Romeo, while Greta Garbo, Grace Kelly, and Rita Hayworth personify Juliet.
