This is Dannsair's fifth studio release. The tracks range from originals - the opening track Breton - to classics like Poor Wayfaring Stranger. One reviewer has already chimed in. From Alicia Lopez, local California reviewer: Get ready, Santa Barbara - Local Celtic Fusion troubadours, Dannsair, hit the recording studio early last year, and come St. Paddy's Day, they'll be releasing their fifth CD to date: Breton. It is engineered and mastered by Santa Barbara Sound Design guru, Dom Camardella, who also added his collaborative efforts to Dannsair's two prior records, The Galway Train and Mists of Ennistymon. 'Breton' is a polished, masterly blending of instruments and harmonies that adds a more mainstream perspective to the Celtic soundscape, easily placing them amongst popular Irish greats Solas and Clannad. Featuring a pleasant mix of traditional Irish tunes with the artistry of original pieces written by Dannsair's familial duo, Russ and Siobhan Doherty, Breton also boasts of guest talents on viola (Rachel Galvin), cello (Jackie Greenshields) and bass (Zak Kopeikin), as well as an inspired instrumental work penned by their long-standing whistler, Jocelyn Tipple, and a heartfelt rendition of The Pogues's Love You Till The End, vocalized by local blues singer, Brian Kinsella. Band leader Russ Doherty commented: 'This year-long effort is our most cohesive and colorful CD to date. Traditional songs like 'Bedlam Boys', with it's wild harmonies are matched by highly emotional Renaissance-sounding tracks like 'The Old Oak Tree'. The cello in the opening cut 'Breton' with it's chamber-music reflective emotions is contrasted by the jazzy qualities of 'Races at Inch Strand' featuring Linda Holland's rapid-fire flute playing.' The official release is set to drop on St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) with an appropriate send-off at Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant, located at 18 E. Ortega St.
