チマローザのピアノ・ソナタの第２集です。第１集（8570718）でも、その多彩な音楽の片鱗に触れることができましたが、ここでも興味深い曲が並びます。彼は活動の早い時期からソナタを書き始めましたが、これらが教育目的だったのか、それとも「手なぐさみ」だったのかはわかっていません。しかし、速い楽章での目もくらむような音使いからは、彼が国内の演奏会などで自らの技巧を誇示するために書かれたものではないか、と推測することもできそうです。緩徐楽章はやや保守的ではあるものの、その表現力の巧みさには驚くばかりです。第１集と同じく、サンジョルジョの丁寧な演奏が光ります。（NAXOS）
