Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) was one of the greatest Romantic composer-pianists, born in Poland, and spent much of his career in France. There is very little among his waltzes, mazurkas, nocturnes, preludes, etudes, polonaises, sonatas, scherzos, and ballades that hasn't become part of the standard repertoire or been transcribed for other instruments. Flowing melodies, highly stylized dances, and brilliant pianism mark his writing. The famous Funeral March, often heard in an orchestral version, comes from the Piano Sonata No. 2. His two piano concertos are also popular. A cello sonata and his set of Polish songs are significant, if not as widely known. ~ Patsy Morita, Rovi
