    ミュンヒェンでマイールの珍しいオペラ『コリントのメディア』を蘇演したミヒャエルが次にケルビーニ版に挑むのは当然のなりゆきだったろうが、オリジナルのフランス語版、しかもオケはピリオド楽器、演出は完全な現代化版とは。仏語版は『カルメン』と同じオペラコミーク、つまりナンバーの間を仏語の台詞でつないでゆく形で書かれているが、台詞部分は演出に合わせて現代語の言い回しに直されている。さらに台詞は必ずしも舞台用の発声ではなく、時には囁くようにも語られるので、その聞き取りを補助するために歌手たちは小型マイクを装備している。演出はジャケ写真通りのパンク姐ちゃん風メデが彼女を拒む社会の中で孤立してゆく様を的確に見せる。子供殺害のシーンはやはりダイレクトには表現しないが、象徴的な見せ方がうまい。ケルビーニ版では金羊皮をめぐる過去のいきさつや異民族、異宗教ゆえの差別などはあまり語られず、メデ個人の悲劇に焦点を合わせた作りになっているが、演出もその方向で徹底していて、昨今の演出では定番の映像も、幸福だったであろうメデとジャソンの過去の回顧になっている。 指揮はピリオド楽器の粗い響きを利して、もともとエキセントリックな音楽をさらに鋭利に響かせる。ミヒャエルは期待通り、いや期待以上の歌と演技で圧巻。次はマクベス夫人か？　中年オジサンになった(でもまだカッコいい)ストレイトも相手役として不足はない。ル・テクシエの悪役ぶりもなかなかの凄味。ディルセはこの版では単なる被害者なので性格表現はシンプルだが、ケルクホーフェの技巧の切れ味も申し分ない。

    　名前のみを聞き知っている作曲家でしたが、メロス・カルテットが演奏しているのなら聴いてみようと購入して聞き始めて驚きました。 　一瞬、ベートーベンのラズモフスキーかとディスクを見直したほど。 　それからどんな経歴なのか、おもむろに解説を読んでなるほどと思いました。　この６曲のカルテットは曲の構成、それぞれの声部の深みのある、緻密な重なりと展開等々、いずれをとっても、古今東西の数ある弦楽四重奏曲屈指の中で屈指の傑作に違いありません。
