ライブ盤としか分からず購入しましたが、1972年ジャパンライブでした。そういえば、その頃確かにカーペンターズが日本に来ていたこと思い出しました。友達が彼氏とコンサートに行くと言っていたなぁって。スタジオ録音と違って歌い方が違いますが、のびのびと楽しそうで臨場感ありです。日本語でSINGを歌ってくれていました。子供たちと一緒にも。カーペンターズ、カレンさんの歌声は私をハッピーな気分にしてくれます。だから余計に、彼女が早く去ってしまわれたことが惜しまれてならないのです。

カーペンターズの最高傑作はと言えば、他にも名前が挙がるだろうが、文句なしに一番聴いたアルバムがこれ。「HORIZON」のような研ぎ澄まされた緊張感とは違って、いい意味でリラックスした自然体の完成度を感じる。特に冒頭の「A SONG FOR YOU」は絶品。カレンのつややかな声が絶妙のアレンジにのってまさに心に染みいってくる。レオン・ラッセルのオリジナルをも超越したひとつの完成品。他の楽曲もどれも素晴らしく、素晴らしい物語に出会えたような感動と満足感に包まれる。何度聴いてもあきることが無い。
