    アシュケナージとハイティンクのコンビによるブラームス・ピアノ協奏曲は1981年にオーケストラをACOで第1番、翌年1982年にオーケストラをVPOで本盤である第2番が収録されています。この年、アシュケナージ45歳、ハイティンクは53歳とこの作品に対峙するには年代的にはマァ適当な感じと私は勝手に判断・・・第1番の方は作品の持つ若さの屈託感から正直ちょっと薹が立ち気味なのが否定出来なくはなかった?・・・したのはこの四楽章の交響曲並みにスケールのある協奏曲を実に堂々とテンポを緩めに採って進めて演奏タイムを①18’48②9’31③13’14④9’30とVPOに珍しい?重厚な音色に乗って一音一音アシュケナージのいつもの入念なピアノが情感豊かに縫う様に進んで行きます。兎に角最初の楽章、ホルン出だしからこの演奏の雰囲気をリードしてやがて入るピアノは粒立ち良くご立派!　第2楽章は重厚なアプローチが良い方に作動しピアノの力強さと高音弦が強調され、聴きようによっては録音良さが饒舌に聴き違えるかもしれません。第3楽章は例のチェロ序奏が示唆に富むしっとりした感じで落ち着いた運びが美しいです。最終楽章はちょっと作品として軽い処がバランス上躊躇を覚えるのですが本演奏は活き々と解放感に満ち手を抜かずにそしてしっかり〆に結び付けます。素直に最高ランクに・・・。なお、アシュケナージにはブラームスのピアノ協奏曲第2番演奏録音がもう一種類ありそれは1967年メータ/LSOのバックによる演奏(タイム①17’39②9’16③12’36④8’59)であります。(タイムについては盤により多少異なる場合があります)

    カラヤン得意のブラ１。堂々として恰幅のよい出だし。きびきびと音符と音符、楽節と楽節を紡ぐ一方、うねりの大きい盛り上げ。ブラームス特有のしっとりした情感などなど、ウィーンPOの美音とも相まって、何度聞いても大きな感動を抱く。序曲も鋭利さと迫力が渾然となった、緊張感溢れる演奏。
