    ヴァーブ時代の「Empathy」と「 A Simple Matter Of Conviction 」 の２枚をカップリング。以前にも同じカップリングの２in１があったが、今回はデジタルリマスター・バージョンが採用され、音質はとてもクリアになっている。 ドラムスには、シェリー・マンが参加しており、細部にこだわりを感じさせる小気味良く端正なドラミングで、ダイナミックというよりは室内楽的なアプローチを感じさせる。オリジナル２枚とも６０年初期〜中期のどちらかと言えば地味なアルバムという評価だが、聞き込むとなかなか味のある佳作であることが伝わってくる。 特に「 A Simple Matter Of Conviction」は６０年代エバンスのエッセンス的な演奏が楽しめる。翌６７年のモントルージャズフェスの頃から華麗に弾きまくるエバンスに変身してしまうが、このアルバムでは音数の多くない時代のシックなビル・エバンスを聴くことができる。 「たまに聴いてみたくなるアルバム」の上位に、私の場合は位置している。 ジャケットもカップリングにしてはきちんと復刻されていて、2枚のオリジナルジャケットの裏表を別々に再現している。どちらかを表にするとまるで単独のオリジナル盤のように見える。音も良いし価格も廉価でお買い得。
