Product Description

Wilhelm Furtwaengler conducted Beethoven's Ninth Symphony more than 100 times. + In August 1954, three months before his death, he directed his last performance in Lucerne, leading the Philharmonia Orchestra and a stellar cast of soloists (Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Elsa Cavelti, Ernst Haefliger and Otto Edelmann), which proved to be an elemental musical event (Neue Zuercher Zeitung). + For this release, the original tapes from the SRF archives have been newly re-mastered, and crucially, the pitch adjusted, bringing the audio, for the first time, as close to the original as possible.

１３種ある第九の演奏をノートに整理して、それに他のベートーヴェンの曲の演奏年代別、販売会社別でWFのCDを整理していると、頭が混乱して変に気チ、、、じみた気がしてくる。よくもまァフルベン愛好家や評論家諸氏は混乱しないことだと感心する。ルツェルンの第九の演奏について、指揮者の気力の強さと能力の高さに脱帽する。誰もまねができない高みに達した第九だと思う。どのCDを聴いても音は良い。ただ、オーディテのCDの音色は概して暗く、演奏のニュアンスに欠けるところが多くあるのが残念である。私は、キングの初期盤とターラ盤で楽しんでいるが、オタケンも優れていると聞いている。その中で、このオーディテCDは評価３か４。キング盤のほうがニュアンスが豊かである。

フルトヴェングラーの「第九」の中で、私的には「バイロイト盤」を抑え堂々の第一位に輝く名盤です。たくさんのレーベルから多くのCDが出ていて、新しいのが出るたび購入している有様です。演奏は★★★★★にもうひとつふたつ付けたくなるような演奏なのですが、このaudite盤は家のオーディオと相性が悪いらしく(こういうことあるんですよ）CD棚のブラックホールへと消えていきました…。★★は録音評です。

フルトヴェングラーの演奏の録音の中では最上位の音質を誇ります。演奏もバイロイト版をしのぎ、フルトヴェングラーの第九のベスト盤だと思います。ただ、現代のアンプ、スピーカーでの再生では、このレベルの音質が最低限のレベルで、こころからの感動を得ることは難しいと思います。
