ライヴ活動を停止し時間と労力を費やして作りあげた、時代の頂点に立つアルバム。タイトル曲のリプリーズを入れてみたりとコンセプトアルバムを意識して作られた。さらに前作以上にサウンドの多様で、オーケストラやブラスバンド、インド楽器なども駆使し曲ごとの特徴を築いている。叙情性豊かなラストソングの「ア・デイ・イン・ザ・ライフ」まで、聴くたびに発見がある傑作です。 1967年6月に発売され、1967年グラミー賞で最優秀アルバム賞他4部門受賞した。

言わずと知れた彼らの代表作の一つ。トータルコンセプトの先駆け。青盤で断片だけを聴いてもその良さは全く伝わらなかった。初めてこのアルバムを通して聴いて呆然とした。このアルバムは通して聴かないと意味がない。
