一言でいえば、驚いた。『シングル大全集』から聴きはじめた私は、その『大全集』の印象で、初期BEGINにそれほど期待していなかった。けど、この傑作アルバムは見事に私の先入見を転覆した。このアルバムがリリースされた当時私は高校1年生だったが、もとより音楽に関心がなかった。その後、洋楽ロックを聴き続けてきたが、ちょっとしたきっかけで2008年ころBEGINを知ることになったのだ。そういうわけで当時の日本ポップスの状況を全く知らないのだが、わずかな例外はあるもののほぼ全編アコースティックに徹底したこの作品が本当のところ正当に受容されたとは思いがたい。比嘉栄昇の若く瑞々しく透明感のある、そして情緒豊かな歌声が耳に残る。サウンドに関しては、例えば「流星の１２弦ギター」でフィドルがのびやかにうたうことなどに、いい意味で茫然とする。まったく新鮮な作品。もう20年前の作品なのだが、古びることなく、いや、より新鮮な輝きを今も放っている。「恋しくて」もアルバムバージョンで、いい味出している。 BEGINの諸作品はほんの一部を除き９割がた聴いたが、どうにも魅力的なアーティストである。ファンハウス時代の作品の再発を期待する。（『USED』『CM コンピレーション』が未聴。あとシングルカプリング曲も）

今回のものは、2005年リリースの『シングル大全集』の増補盤という感じですね。三線の花、ミーファイユー、ここから未来へ、イチャリバオハナ、笑顔のまんま、僕らのこの素晴らしき世界が追加されるようだ。それよりも、シングル盤のカプリング曲を収録してほしい。『シングル・コンプリート全集』というような編集盤がでることを期待します。
