Product Description

In Echoes: Memoirs of Andre Kostelanetz the Russian born arranger-conductor writes The studio was an unimposing upstairs room in the home of the old German Singing Society, Liederkranz Hall on Fifty-Eighth Street in New York. To have played there is to be spoiled for ever as far as acoustical standards are concerned. It was there on the 6th of February 1940 that Maestro Kostelanetz and his forty five piece orchestra began making their first recordings for Columbia Records. Over time the venue became a popular recording spot for the orchestra. Metronome Magazine dedicated it's March 1939 issue to Andre Kostelanetz and his forty five musicians saying There has never been as brilliant a musical organization in radio as that of Kostelanetz. It's coloring, It's shading, It's finesse, it's coupling of good taste and excitement have set a standard among modern musical organizations that so far has not been approached.
