デュエインを失ったあとの発表でも「アット・フィルモア・イースト」をしのぐベストセラーになった「イート・ア・ピーチ」。全く新しい、と言っていいエディションになって、これ以上求めるものはないほど満足満足の作品になっています。南部のロックと言えば、熱くてエネルギッシュで男臭くて…と連想してしまいます。が、オールマン・ブラザーズの音は熱さと洗練を両立させたもので無二。聴き方によっては、とても都会的な音です。長くタイトな演奏を繰り広げながら、これだけ優しい音楽ってほかに思いつきません。何をお手本としていたのか、と不思議であります。彼らのつくる音は、ファースト・アルバムの頃こそ、ブルーズロックと言えるものでしたが、四作を重ねる段階で全く新しいスタイルになっています。ベストセラーになったのは、ユーザーの耳が彼らの新しさに追いついたためです。現に、いまだにオールマン・ブラザーズは存在し続けていて、新しいユーザーを獲得しているわけです。その意味で怪物のようなアルバムです。もうひとつ、この作品はどこから聴き始めてもいい。ディッキー・ベッツとグレッグ主体の曲を頭から聴くもいいし、フィルモアのライブだけ聴くのもいいし、マウンテン・ジャムだけ聴くのもいい。とても自由なアプローチを許してくれます。わたしは、とても彼らの全体像をつかめているわけではないですが、目の前に彼らの創造した自由な世界が広がっているようで、楽しくて仕方がありません。

マウンテンジャムはまさに究極の名演奏だね。メリサは隠れた名曲。allｍａｎのｽﾗｲﾄﾞｷﾞﾀ-は最高だね。ｃｌａｐｔｏｎが一目置いたのもうなずけるし、claptonのその後の音楽性にも影響を与えたよね。我が青春時代の宝物ですね。ぜひ聴いてみて！
