マルタンは20世紀の作曲家なので、従来の分類であれば現代音楽のジャンルなのだろうが、今となってはそれ風のライト・クラシックという趣だ。聴いて不快ではない範囲に常に制御されており、耳を劈く不協和音も聴き分け不能の複合リズムも登場しないが、その分表現力・伝達性に乏しく、長く聴いていると同じようなことの繰り返しに聴こえてつい聴き流してしまう。同郷のオネゲルに通ずる作風だが、より個性も作品密度も低く、従って知名度もそういう順なのがうなずける。 録音は器楽系が70年代と古く楽器の艶やかさや余韻感には乏しいが、近接した録音パターンでソロのクローズアップも昔風に利いているため、声部の動きが鮮明で音響的な面白さはある。アカペラの響きもきれいに録れている。 多彩な作品が収められており、オリエンテーション・キットとしては格好だが、これだけ聴けばもういいかな、という感じは否めない。

とにかく聴こう。マルタンって誰か分からなくても。 簡単に言えば、すごくメロディーがきれいなフランス音楽とドイツ音楽の中間みたいな音楽。 かなりかっちりしながらきれいめな音楽。 スイス人です。
