ｵｰﾌﾟﾆﾝｸﾞ曲『HURTS SO GOOD』はﾎﾞｰﾅｽﾄﾗｯｸが追加収録されたｻｳﾝﾄﾞﾄﾗｯｸ盤『ﾌｯﾄ･ﾙｰｽ』にも収録されています｡もともと未収録だった『AMERICAN FOOL』がﾎﾞｰﾅｽﾄﾗｯｸに追加収録されたのも心憎い演出でした｡最近やたらｵﾏｹ以下のﾎﾞｰﾅｽﾄﾗｯｸを追加収録した作品が目立っていましたがｺﾁﾗなら誰もが納得と思います｡

JOHN MELLENCAMPはアルバム毎に素晴らしい作品を残すアーティストでもあるけれど、こうして収録曲を並べるとアルバム重視のイメージと違って、ヒットを意識していたかの様なシングルナンバーが多かったことに気付く。（TOP40入りが22曲） それだけインパクトある曲を25年も作り続けてきたという証だろうか。この二度目のベスト盤、タイトルもズバリ『Words ＆ Music』2CDである。 また、JOHN MELLENCAMPはシンプルな音づくりに一貫性がある人で、こうした編集盤による構成でも違和感が全く無い。ゆえに曲順は時代順ではなくトータル性を重視したBest盤になっていて、この当時の新曲２曲も全体にフィットしている。 ※全曲リマスター かなり音質向上されています
