アメリカを代表する(？）ソングライターでピアニストでシンガーであるランディー・ニューマンが音楽で表現するのは愛だの恋だの好きだの嫌いだの、なんて事柄で無いってことは歌詞が理解できなくても十分に伝わってくるはず。アメリカ人だからこそ歌える南部蔑視、黒人蔑視、って云うか殆ど自虐的なアメリカ蔑視とも思える歌の数々。1曲目のRedneck(肉体労働者)からいきなり「俺たちゃ肉体労働者。俺たちのケツの穴は地面の穴とも区別がつかねえ。俺たちゃ黒んぼたちをぶちのめす。」なんて過激な歌詞を淡々をした声で歌ってしまう。そんなランディー・ニューマンの数あるアルバムの中でも本作はバックをライ・クーダーやジム・ケルトナーといった常連の他、ウィリー・ウィークス＋アンディー・ニューマークという当時最強と云われたリズム・セクションやイーグルスのメンバーなどがサポートしており、SSWファンのみならずロック・ファンにとっても音的に魅力ある作品に仕上っています。彼の作品のなかで最も多くターンテーブルに乗せた個人的には彼のベストアルバム。
