70年代に活躍したシンガー・ソングライター、ラウドン・ウェインライト3世と、ケルト音楽のシンガーであるケイト・マクギャリグルの間に生まれたルーファス・ウェインライトは1973年7月22日生まれ。いわゆる音楽一家に生まれた彼は導かれるようにピアノを弾き始め、音楽家としての道を歩むことになる。
