Richard Williams represented all the very finest qualities in a musician. When he made this album in 1960, he had already worked with leaders such as Mingus and Gigi Gryce then, he went on to play in the big bands of Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Duke Ellington and Orchestra USA. His superb musicianship meant he was a player very much in demand. Gill Evans employed him on a number of occasions as had Clark Terry. A trumpet concerto was specially written for him and he spent a number of years working on the Continent. This album also presents Leo Wright on alto sax and flute, Richard Wyands on piano, Reginald Workman on bass and Bobby Thomas on drums. The Williams/Wright partnership sets this album in a special category for it catches two important young men at the threshold of their careers.

リチャード・ウイリアムス、キャンディド・レーベルからのリリースでファースト・リーダー作。共演者はピアノがリチャード・ワイアンズ、アルトサックスとフルートがレオ・ライト、ベースがレジー・ワークマン、ドラムがボビー・トーマス。一言でいうと味がある、スルメみたいな味がある。噛めば噛むほどいい味がしてくる。これ見よがしの鋭い技巧とは裏腹に、朴訥（ぼくとつ）な哀愁のトランペットに引き込まれる。バック陣との相性も抜群にいい、特にフルートのレオ・ライトと絡み合った時、もう気分は最高。

ゆったりした、歌心溢れるアルバムです｡最近ボサノバ系にはまっていましたが、う〜ん、こういうアルバムを聴くとやっぱりジャズはいいなーとしみじみ思ってしまいます｡年に何度か聴くアルバム、忘れられない何かがあるのです｡
