サッチモはニューヨークへ上り、フレッチャー・ヘンダーソンのバンドに参加している。サッチモはあっという間に名を挙げたが、翌年には再びシカゴに戻って彼の最も初期の演奏として不滅の名前を残すことになるグループ、“ホット・ファイヴ”を結成する。
