商品説明

Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians were enormously popular among middlebrow, middle-class citizens throughout North America during the 1930s, '40s, and '50s. The British Vocalion label presents Take It Easy, a pleasant package of 25 classic sides waxed by this famously accessible ensemble between 1939 and 1950. There are quite a number of sweet vocals sprinkled throughout this anthology. The instrumental tracks consist of a dazzling Begin the Beguine, a swell rendition of Swanee River, and stunningly silly realizations of Doll Dance and The Irish Washerwoman. There's a magnificently entertaining vocal by the Lombardo Trio on Take It Easy and a very funny routine involving the entire band on W.C. Handy's St. Louis Blues, during which Carmen Lombardo holds a really long note on the alto sax. This is definitively wholesome entertainment, innocent and harmless as milk and cookies. ~ arwulf arwulf, Rovi

Guy Lombardo

The Sweetest Music This Side of Heaven was the logo of Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians, who by 1930 had established themselves as America's top dance band. Unfairly lumped in with unswinging Mickey Mouse bands of the era, the music of Lombardo's outfit was actually top-notch, and they were constantly cited by Louis Armstrong as his favorite band for their purity of intonation.
